The David Beckham Academy,
Greenwich
Opening
July 2005
Mini David Beckham wanabees will soon flock
to Greenwich with the launch of The David Beckham Academy
this July. It will be one of the largest grassroots sports
initiatives ever to take place in the UK.
Opening this summer in London alongside the Millennium Dome,
a sister Academy will be unveiled in Los Angeles at the end
of 2005.
The London Academy forms part of the AEG's £1 billion investment
in the Millenium Dome site. The facility will comprise two
full size indoor pitches and an extensive pavilion featuring
state of the art classrooms, dinner hall and changing rooms.
Using the latest technology, the Academy will provide a fun
and interactive experience for children unlike any seen in
football.
Targeted at all ability levels, The David Beckham Academy
in London will initially welcome boys and girls aged 8 - 15.
During 15 weeks of schools holidays, The David Beckham Academy
will open to children wishing to attend a five-day football
training camp. There will be a fee for attending the course,
and all attendees will receive an Academy kit as part of the
package.
During normal term time, The David Beckham Academy will implement
a national schools programme inviting children to participate
in a range of exciting activities and resources based on football
skills, which also encourage healthy living schemes and a
positive attitude to sport in general. Part of the programme
includes the option for local schools to attend a one-day
course free of charge.
